in my chest is a nest
swallows i think
i haven't fed them in a real long time
will they come back next spring?
i can only hope
never seems to be enough time
not till it's too late

the new family bed

our ikea trip was fantastic.  baby did great.  this is what we bought for our family for x-mas.  we needed a bigger bed and i had been thinking about getting one that was closer to the ground too.  we have a concrete floor.  baby can get on and off the bed on his own.  perfect.  and it is a queen, so lots more room.  10 inches, to be exact!  sublime.

the season is changing

it is getting cooler in the evenings.  a wonderful time of year when we can throw open the windows at night as we sleep and breathe in the fresh air of a new season.  (provided you have screens on them that have no holes)  I spent the better part of sunday rescreening 4 windows and 1  door, so that we could do this.  it is not as magical as having the screen fairy come and do them while you sleep, but now i have a wonderful new skill.  so, the cooler air ushers in thoughts of fires and bundling up in sweaters and searching etsy for the perfect toboggan for my little one - found one of course. (well, hundreds, actually)  needing to make the mei tai for the bluegrass festival coming at the end of october.  needing to throw a supper shower for my ever growing/glowing pregnant katie.  needing to hurry and buy some babylegs to protect my creeping beauty.  lots to do and drycleaning to be picked up in order to not get caught on the day it turns cold, without a winter jacket.  found this little number in the alabaster thrift for $1.75!  i used to have one just like it that i found at a reuse site in fairbanks, alaska back in 2004 for free!  i attract affordable, gorgeous red coats, i guess.  wink.

long weekend

baby and mamma and dada had such a nice long weekend.  sleeping in together, eating together at the local mexican restaurant, shopping together.  i miss my family sometimes since i work a lot.  it is nice to just "nest".  the weather has been cooler the last few days.  really enjoyable to wake up in the early morning and have a tiny chill.  yesterday we saw a deer on the way home - during the day!  just running alongside the county road.  such a sweet reminder that we are in the wild.  nice to come home from the urban to the country.  the pool is almost ready.  such a late start this year.  maybe a few more days of summer will allow for us.
