the season is changing

it is getting cooler in the evenings.  a wonderful time of year when we can throw open the windows at night as we sleep and breathe in the fresh air of a new season.  (provided you have screens on them that have no holes)  I spent the better part of sunday rescreening 4 windows and 1  door, so that we could do this.  it is not as magical as having the screen fairy come and do them while you sleep, but now i have a wonderful new skill.  so, the cooler air ushers in thoughts of fires and bundling up in sweaters and searching etsy for the perfect toboggan for my little one - found one of course. (well, hundreds, actually)  needing to make the mei tai for the bluegrass festival coming at the end of october.  needing to throw a supper shower for my ever growing/glowing pregnant katie.  needing to hurry and buy some babylegs to protect my creeping beauty.  lots to do and drycleaning to be picked up in order to not get caught on the day it turns cold, without a winter jacket.  found this little number in the alabaster thrift for $1.75!  i used to have one just like it that i found at a reuse site in fairbanks, alaska back in 2004 for free!  i attract affordable, gorgeous red coats, i guess.  wink.

little swimmer

as summertime is coming to a close, we are savoring each day in our pool.  Adrian loves swimming and splashing with his papa.  (mama is always close to snap a few shots.)  he is growing up so much these days.  i swear he got 3 teeth this week and learned to crawl!  what a big boy!  we are so proud.   does it get any better than this?  happy 8 months old to you, baby!

haircut therapy

you know when you just need a haircut?  i don't mean that you feel "shaggy".  i mean that you feel down and uninspired.  just a general sense of unbalance.  and when you do it.  you release all the pressure, frustration, and stress and radiate creativity, and light and beauty!  you are somewhat lighter.  and it seems as though your life has purpose and real drive.  it gets you revved up and feeling fine!  like a commercial with your favorite song playing on the soundtrack.  wait, now i am just getting carried way...

pinky

this is "pinky".  he was created by christy daniel-camp.  she also designed the poster and t-shirt for the event this year - Artwalk 2008.  this was our fabulous artwalk find.  and at half price too.  thank you christy.  we had a blast!

the poachers party

went to artwalk saturday in downtown birmingham.  didn't show this year, neither did patrick.  we've been sorta busy with the kid and all.  anyhoo, met one of patrick's students down there and brought him back to montevallo for the evening.  the poachers played at eclipse coffee and books that evening and they were fantastic.  patrick's student is on foreign exchange from b.c. canada.  it was cool to have him come stay with us and hang.  we were hanging out being porch monkeys when this was taken of jess marie, walker and adrian vega.  walker is also a cool cat, who plays gigs himself.  he is 13 and can play a mean guitar.  think bob dylan meets bo diddley.  he's real good and an example of what good montessori can do.  his mom, jess is pretty cool too. she heads up the major art festivals in birmingham.  good friends...

fenugreek, my savior

oh, fenugreek, where are you?  i have misplaced my fenugreek this past week and it has been hell trying to keep up with my son's growing demands on my milk supply.  i thought they slacked off a bit at this age....?  he has also started this wake-up-several-times-in-mid-night thing.  he used to sleep through the night!  what is going on!!!!  the only thing i have been able to figure out is that he may be waking due to a developmental milestone soon being reached.  my sleeping habits are really suffering right now.  such a bleary eyed mama...finally found my fenugreek in an old purse tonight!  yes, there will be milk tomorrow.
